How To Care For Your BioThane
All of our collars and leashes are made with genuine BioThane Beta 520 material.
The BioThane is weather resistant, mud and waterproof and easy to clean with just a little soap and water.
We recommend that you do not machine wash your leashes or collars as the hardware may scratch during the process and damage your machine.
5 Steps to clean your BioThane:
1. Put your leash or collar in the sink and get some dish soap and a soft sponge/cloth ready.
2. Run some warm water and use the dish soap to create a soapy bath for your leash/collar.
3. Use the sponge/cloth to wipe off any dirt on your leash/collar.
4. Remove the leash/collar from the water and dry off with a clean towel.
5. You should have refreshed your vivid and rich BioThane.
Light coloured BioThane that is in combination with brass hardware may slightly discolour the BioThane over time due to the natural tarnishing of brass. These stains can be lightened with a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda or salt. Make a paste and apply it where you wish to lighten, and leave it too do it's magic! Rinse off and repeat where necessary then dry with a clean cloth. A Mr. Clean dry eraser work well too.
If your BioThane has been accommodating your dog swimming in salt water, we recommend that you give your BioThane product a rinse afterwards.
How to disinfect Biothane
10% bleach solution (take the bleach out of the bottle, at 6.5% active ingredient, and dilute 1 part to 9 parts water)
For the Hardware:
Brass plated, nickel plated may rust over time if left in the elements for too long. Naturally, over time you will notice wear marks on your rose gold and black coloured hardware where rub points are predominant.
To keep your hardware in best condition and shiny for as long as possible:
- Dry or hang to dry after it has been used in wet conditions.
- Do not clean with a wire brush or tools as it will remove the coating.
Brass uncontrollably tarnishes over time. To restore it's shine use the mixture mentioned above of lemon juice and baking soda or salt. Make a paste and apply to the areas you wish to lighten. Rinse off and repeat where necessary, then dry with a clean cloth.
